Reign of Asgard is a spec concept I developed to show more of my range as an artist and UI designer. As an Art Director, I don’t always get the opportunities to do as much hands-on UI work, so this was just a fun chance to stretch a bit into the match-3/RPG hybrid genre.

I love norse mythology so I took my inspiration for the game from viking culture and crafts. From there, I developed a visual language that made heavy use of carved wood, runes, and archaic paper texture with historic design motifs.
The color palette came from the rustic textures mixed with violets and dark purples adding a magical element.

I like creating my own UI illustrations when I can. For this project, I created the match-3 gems in Photoshop and Illustrator using heavy gradients to give them that realistic shine. Other elements like the chest, I hand painted in Photoshop.
