Table & Taste

Table & Taste is a food-based lifestyle game from the Crowdstar studio. I was part of a core team that come up with the concept for the game, prototyped it, and took it into production.

Role: Creative Director, Senior Art Director

Early Prototyping

As a member of the core team who developed the initial concept for the game, part of my role was creating all of the early wireframes, mocks and XD prototypes - in addition to providing all art support for early in-engine prototypes.

We iterated and tested many design concepts heavily before settling on a final game design.

User Interface Design & Direction

I also oversaw the design and execution of all aspects of UI development - hiring and managing the UI/UX team, and working with all disciplines across the team including PM, User Research, Engineering and QA.

I also designed the look & feel of Table & Taste’s UI. We tested several style variations with potential users in order to validate appeal with target audience. The style needed to feel fun like a game but also welcoming to players who were used to food apps.

I wrote specs for UI features, developed wireframes, mocks, prototypes, and animations.

Visual Direction and Technical Strategy

One of the core challenges of Table & Taste was creating realistic and appetizing 3D food.

As Senior Art Director, I drove the art R&D initiative, investigating new tech with both internal and external teams and prototyping different approaches.

In the end, we were able to develop an approach that met our goals, and went on to build a pipeline generating over 300 photorealistic 3D recipe and ingredient assets.

Art Direction & Pipeline Creation

I provided art direction for the initial game content, overseeing the development of our artistic standards and style guides.

I was also responsible for building the art pipeline - including vendor hiring/ramp and overseeing all art-related technical development.

The result was over 200 unique food scenes created in Unity, in addition to 1,500+ photo-realistic 3D food and decor assets.
