Console UI Work

I spent several years as a UI artist for various Playstation, Xbox and PC games at LucasArts Entertainment Company and Sega of America/Secret Level, Inc. I love working on UI as it gives me a chance to interact with all of the different disciplines on the team.

These are a few of the projects I worked on.

Iron Man

Sega of America

Role: UI Artist

Platforms: Xbox, Playstation

Game HUD

The HUD had a number of animating widgets that were designed to look like the inside of Iron Man’s helmet display.

This was an animation mock of the HUD created in Adobe After Effects to assist engineering in implementation.

Main Menu

The background of this screen was a video showing a slow motion animation panning over Iron Man’s suit.

Suit Selection

End Credits Video

I animated and edited the full end credits video for the game.

The opening sequence of Iron Man’s suit I made using Maya and Adobe After Effects. I edited the full video and audio using Adobe Premiere. This clip below just shows the opening portion of the full video.

America’s Army: Rise of a Soldier

Sega of America

Role: UI Artist

Platforms: Xbox

Menu Screens

For the look & feel of this UI I took inspiration from the design of army uniforms.

HUD

The game HUD was designed to mimic the tactical display of a real soldier.

Damage Effects

Mocks showing how different kinds of damage were indicated to the player.

Star Wars: Episode 3

LucasArts Entertainment Company

Role: UI Artist

Platforms: Xbox, Playstation

Menu Screens

I designed the menus for this game adaption of the film with a minimal style, designed to be overlaid over color-treated video roll from the film.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan

LucasArts Entertainment Company

Role: UI Artist

Platforms: Xbox

Menu Screens

I designed and built this UI using Adobe Flash. At the time, it was one of the first games to use Flash for console interface.

Gladius

LucasArts Entertainment Company

Role: UI Artist

Platforms: Xbox, Playstation, GameCube

Menu Screens

Gladius was a game inspired by Roman gladiator battles. I designed the menus and also painted all of the textures and objects in the scenes using Photoshop.

Sam & Max: Freelance Police

LucasArts Entertainment Company

Role: UI Artist

Platforms: PC (cancelled)

Menu Screens

Sam & Max was based on characters from a humorous comic book, so I designed the UI to feel a little bit like an old comic book.

Gytgo

The Gytgo was a mini-game launcher within the main game. It was designed to look like a 1980s arcade game.
